The Esteem Agency: Valuing People First

Updated: Aug 10

If you've spent any time around The Esteem Agency, you know our slogan:

Acquisition gets the glory. Retention does the work. Here is what that really means.

Anyone can chase the new client, the new member, the new donor, or the new audience.

The harder, quieter, and more meaningful work is making the people already in your world feel so genuinely valued that they stay, grow, and bring others with them.

That's not just a marketing tactic. It's a belief about people. When someone feels seen, they show up differently. When a member feels celebrated, they renew without being chased.

When a young person feels like someone is in their corner, they walk into rooms they never thought they belonged in.

The 4 Cs Framework™

Clarity. Connection. Consistency. Celebration. My 4 Cs Framework™ exists because delivering value and valuing people is a practice, not a personality trait. It can be learned, built, and repeated by an employer, consultant, nonprofit, or a membership association.

What Gloria Knew

Gloria Baylis wasn't valued in that moment in 1964. She was turned away because of who she was. Yet, she rose anyway, not just for herself, but in a way that pried a door open for everyone coming behind her.

That's the part of her story I carry into my work every single day. Holding doors open isn't separate from what I do at The Esteem Agency. It is what I do!

It's there when I help a small business owner build a retention system so their best clients never feel like an afterthought.

It's there when I mentor youth through Roots Community Services' Black Leaders of Tomorrow program. A mentee once told me the experience made them feel capable of more.

To learn more about this fantastic youth mentorship program:

This year, I served as a mentor with the Black Leaders of Tomorrow (BLT) program, 2026 Winter/Spring cohort, which focuses on entrepreneurship and leadership for Black youth ages 16–24. Here's what my mentee shared at the end of our journey: 'Thank you so much, Natalie, for an amazing mentorship experience. I loved how personable and helpful you were with your tips, and I am grateful that you are part of the Roots Community!' — BLT Program Mentee

It's there in the work with EnRoute 2 Success, bringing free golf and chess programming to over 1,500 kids who might never have picked up a club or a chess piece otherwise.

Since 2023, Natalie has been an active supporter, valued partner and dedicated volunteer with EnRoute 2 Success. Her expertise in community engagement has strengthened our brand, secured in-kind sponsorship, and forged exceptional connections with key stakeholders. From supporting our Black History Events to securing donations and sponsoring our charity golf tournament, Natalie’s commitment to our mission is undeniable. We are grateful for her ongoing support and strategic insight.” — Renee Rudder, Founder, EnRoute 2 Success

It's there in championing organizations like Brampton On Stage, JA Central Ontario, and Regeneration Outreach. A community where people feel valued is a community where people rise. Excellent client engagement results have proven that to me over and over.

I had the opportunity to work with Natalie Williams during her time as Interim Brampton Lead, Corporate & Community Partnerships at JA Central Ontario... Natalie brings a positive and professional approach to her work and is passionate about making a difference in her community. I am grateful for the contributions she made during her time with JA Central Ontario and wish her continued success." — Lorri Detta, Sr. Director, Finance & Operations, JA Central Ontario

Client work and community work were never two separate things. They come back to the same belief, applied in different rooms.

I had the opportunity to collaborate with Natalie and The Esteem Agency for Brampton On Stage's Flow Fest, and her work was a key contributor to the festival's success. Natalie's focus on authenticity and connection made a meaningful difference. I would recommend her to any organization seeking to enhance their community engagement and outreach efforts." — Jocelyn Johnston, Theatre Manager, Brampton On Stage

The Importance of Recognition

Awards are lovely. But this one carries a name, and names carry responsibility.

To be recognized in Gloria Baylis's name is one of the greatest honours of my career. It's also a reminder that recognition isn't the finish line.

The job is to hold the doors open for the next generation: the next founder, the next mentee, the next kid on the golf course who's realizing for the first time that someone believes in them.

Continuing the Legacy

That’s the work. And I intend to keep doing it.

Because when people feel valued, they rise. Every time!

The Path Forward

As we move forward, let’s focus on creating environments where everyone feels appreciated. This is not just about business; it’s about building a community.

By prioritizing client retention, we can foster loyalty and create lasting relationships.

Imagine a world where your clients not only stay longer but also advocate for your brand. This is achievable through a retention-first strategy.

Let’s commit to valuing our clients and community members. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positivity and growth.

In conclusion, let’s remember the lessons from Gloria Baylis. Her story inspires us to continue advocating for those who feel unseen.

Let’s ensure that everyone knows they are valued. When we do this, we not only elevate individuals but also strengthen our communities.

The journey is ongoing, and I am excited to see where it leads us. Together, we can make a difference.
